Both third and fourth graders have finished up the year working on self-portraits.

Third graders were inspired by the works of folk artist Howard Finster who included text and images in his works.

While fourth graders worked to draw from observation and convey strong emotions in facial features, color and imagery. The portraits remained as pencil line drawings, allowing the background to speak to the feeling. The students worked through thumbnail sketches and word lists to plan their final works. I was quite impressed.
