Happy Dot Day!

International Dot Day was a big hit at MBES. In art, we each designed our special dot. With kindergarten through second grade classes, I read another one of Peter H. Reynolds' books, ish. We discussed how art doesn't have to be perfect so it was ok if our dots were circle-ish.

Monday through Thursday's classes all added to the table Dot Day banners that will be displayed in the halls for everyone to find their dots.

Old School Selfies

We have been studying how artists use the elements of art to express themselves and create art. Kindergarten learned that a line is a dot that goes for a walk and can make many different paths. We learned the names and how to draw straight, broken, curvy, zigzag, spiral and scalloped lines. After some instruction on painting and brush care, we used water color to create a resist over our line designs. Next, we used the lines to create shapes and details on our self portraits and added color with crayons and paint. The students had a blast and I was smiling from ear to ear seeing the results.

The final step was cutting out the portraits and gluing them to the line water color resist background. They are perfect!
