Blab about Slab!

We had a great time learning about slab construction and glazing with our latest project in fourth grade. After watching an informational Prezi on hand-building methods with clay, students decided whether they wanted to make a container or a tile using the slab method. Students then created sketches to plan their projects.

Some student tiles were inspired by the mini landscapes of Szilvia Vihiälä, an artist from Finland whom I discovered on Pinterest.

This is a tiny farm that is only 2 by 2 1/2 inches. Oh, the patience of this young man.

We have started to glaze  and I cannot wait to see these pastel colors bloom into the bright primary and secondary colors. We've thrown a few neutrals in, especially for landscape details.
I will post these and others after we fire the second time.

Youth Art Month

March is Youth Art Month! We started off the celebration with an opening reception of the Oconee County Youth Art Month Show at OCAF on February 27th. This is an annual show with artists representing all the public and private schools in the county.

At our school, we celebrate with Fine arts Night. We have an Artome' art show where every student has a piece of artwork that is framed and matted for display. This is always an impressive show and will be held this year on March 19th from 6:00 to 7:30. There will be other arts related activities such as a photo booth with art props, an opportunity to become part of The Scream, draw-your-selfie, recorder performances and more. Our spring book fair will also be open for the evening.

I am looking forward to an art-filled evening and will post some highlights!
