Happy Valen-Dine's Day

After returning from our 4 day snow-cation (which included Valentine's Day,) Mrs. Hilley's first grade class completed their Jim Dine inspired heart design.

We talked about pattern and how we can see the rhythm of the heart beating by repeating the shape.

We also talked about symbols and how people who speak different languages can communicate through images. After viewing some of the pictograms from the Sochi Winter Olympics, we tried to name some of the Olympic events based on the image. This was my cheat sheet since we live in the warm (well, at least most of the time) south.

Here are a few more valen-Dines to make your heart flutter.

Kindergarten Art Makes Me Happy

There is just something about the simplicity and sincerity of 5 and 6 year olds with some cardboard shapes, glue and paint. After reviewing line, shape, pattern and texture, I just stood back and let them do the rest.

This zebra does not have oil pastel details or stamped pattern yet.
I can't wait to see it completed.
