 After practicing some handbuilding techniques with modeling clay, we are starting to work with the "real thing." The students are so excited when they walk into the art room and the tables are blanketed in canvas. Whispers of "Yay!" can be heard.

Following a brief history of face jugs in the South, we start by building a covered coil pot. Face Jug Video

Next, students are taught to score and slip to
join the details to the pot shape.
Then, the real fun begins as each student
adds personality to his or her own work.

  Broken plates are used to add teeth.
